Zaheer Abbas advises owners, developers and businesses on commercial real estate and corporate transactions, bringing law firm, government and in-house experience in both England and the United States to deals that need a commercial answer rather than a long memorandum.
Zaheer joined KatzDay as a Senior Associate in 2021. His prior experience in England and the United States includes government, law firm and in-house roles in commercial real estate and corporate law.
Zaheer earned his law degree from the University of Liverpool in England and an LL.M. in Business and Finance Law from The George Washington University Law School. He is admitted to practice in Maryland, New York and the District of Columbia.
Representative Matters
• Manages a portfolio of more than 90 medical office leases across ten states for a multi-state injury care and rehabilitation clinic operator, handling new leases, renewals, amendments, expansions, relocations, subleases, commencement date agreements, work letters and terminations, and running a portfolio-wide lease audit and expiration calendar.
• Advises a private equity-backed primary care and urgent care platform on a seventeen-lease clinic portfolio across five states, handling amendments, assignments, tenant estoppel certificates and negotiated early terminations as part of a post-acquisition portfolio rationalization.
• Serves as leasing counsel to a family-held Maryland commercial landlord, negotiating more than twenty retail, office, flex and restaurant leases and guaranties across its owned centers in Anne Arundel and neighboring counties, together with the amendments, assignments, estoppel certificates, subordination agreements and enforcement matters that follow.
• Represented the seller of a multi-tenant retail center in Frederick County, Maryland, running the tenant estoppel and subordination process across the rent roll and the assignment of leases through to settlement, after two earlier sale processes had been negotiated and did not close.
• Coordinated the simultaneous termination of leases at three healthcare locations in Maryland and Virginia on a single day for a multi-site operator.
• Represented a purchaser in the acquisition of a veterinary clinic property in New Jersey, including title and survey review, title objections, and the lease to the operating company delivered at closing.
